History - The Women

Peter says.

"In hindsight, with all the work being done we overlooked the importance of our womenfolk. This country was very hard on people and especially the womenfolk. There was usually only one woman and about five stockmen. When all the crew were home a typical conversation would entail - cattle, horses, bore maintenance, mechanical repairs etc, but of course no baby talk, fashionable clothing or women talk in general.

Dawn used to talk to her neighbour every day at 3.30pm after the RFDS medical session and they were 80km apart. They may see each other twice a year. Although it was tough, there is no doubt that without these women a lot of places would not have survived."
